Stefan graduated as shipbroker in 1979 and started in the tanker division of the Ahrenkiel Group in Hamburg. He joined UCT in 1986 and specialized in the chartering of Chemical Tankers as well as the management of the UCT Pool.

As from 1996 he built up the Product Tanker division which was lateron transferred to a separate entity, namely UPT.
